Introducing science, ethics, and elite performance to the heart of the desert, Dr. Margreet Voermans is setting new standards for camel racing.
A dual-certified veterinary surgeon in Equine Surgery (ECVS) and Sports Medicine & Rehab (ACVSMR), Dr. Margreet is the only expert of her kind in the Middle East. Dutch-born and globally trained, she brings over a decade of experience leading equine hospitals, performing high-volume surgeries, and pioneering veterinary programs across Europe, Latin America, and the Gulf.
Since 2019, she’s pioneered camel sports medicine in the Middle East, serving as Medical Director of a high-tech camel hospital in Qatar, leading complex surgeries, and shaping ethical recovery protocols for racing camels reaching speeds of 60 km/h.
As CEO of Vetsgate and Chair of the WCSO Anti-Doping Committee, Dr. Margreet is building the region’s first science-led performance lab at Al Haboob. Her philosophy, “Welfare First, Winning Always,” ensures that every camel is trained and treated like an elite athlete, blending Bedouin heritage with world-class veterinary standards.
